Truly Beautiful

Asymmetrical Breasts

For most women, demonstrating asymmetrical breasts is the general rule rather than the exception. Very few women have natural perfectly symmetrical breasts and it is common for one to be slightly larger or different shaped than the other. While this is normal and expected, the usual range of variation is slight and barely noticeable, especially upon casual observation. When the discrepancy is obvious, it can be a big problem for a woman, both physically and emotionally.

Causes of Asymmetrical Breasts

Most cases of uneven breasts are simply natural variations in the developmental process. Breasts develop at their own individual pace and will eventually have their own unique form. The normal growth process will create breasts of similar size and structure. However, there are many variations of this norm which are indeed possible. Breasts can turn out completely different in size, shape, projection or placement.

Other cases of breast asymmetry are caused by a surgical procedure. Breast enlargement surgery is the most common culprit, causing uneven breasts due to poor surgical technique, post-operative complications or inadequate aftercare and follow up. Sometimes breast implants are not placed symmetrically or may “drop” unevenly. Breast reduction and mastopexy procedures can also cause an uneven appearance, but this is usually from poorly executed tissue removal. If the surgeon does not remove tissue from each breast precisely, the result might be an asymmetrical appearance.

Treatment for Asymmetrical Breasts

Depending on the size and shape of the breasts and the specific form of asymmetry, a proper surgical procedure can be used to balance the patient. Talking to your doctor about which procedure is best for you is a crucial first step in becoming “even keel”. If the cause of your asymmetry is a previous surgery, you might have to endure another operation to fix the uneven results. While this can be an ordeal, it is often worth the trouble to achieve the aesthetic results you set out to accomplish. Once again, it is vital to discuss all the options which can fix breast symmetry issues with your trusted cosmetic surgeon before deciding which procedure is right for your needs.

Recommendation on Asymmetrical Breasts

I know many women who have noticeably uneven breasts and are perfectly happy the way they are. Some women like the small irregularities that give them their own unique individuality and identity. If you are one of these lucky women, then God bless you and your breasts! If you are like most and have some emotional issues stemming from uneven breasts, there is nothing wrong with acknowledging these feelings and being proactive about fixing the asymmetry with cosmetic surgery. Either way, loving yourself, regardless of even or uneven breasts, is the most valuable lesson to be learned. You are beautiful, just the way you are or just the way you want to be…
