Q: hi, my name is Michelle, i'm 24 and have different size breasts. one is a c or d and the other is a dd or f?! is there any possibility i can have the larger breast reduced to the same size as the smaller one? I would like to have both my breasts the c or d cup size?? if its possible would it cost as much as getting them both done? thanksA: Hi Michelle, Yes, it is certainly possible using reduction surgery or even liposuction, depending on the composition of your breasts. The cost is very subjective, based on the area where the procedure is performed and the surgeon used. I recommend contacting some surgeons for quotes. Let me know if you decide to undergo the procedure and how it goes for you. Best, Eve Q: Hi there!I had breast reduction surgery about a week ago, and already so very happy with results. My question is that my breasts are of course, quite tender yet, but when i press on the area below the nipple...it's almost like i'm pressing on playdoh...it leaves a little dent that stays for a little while. Is this normal? or do i need to call my surgeon? Jen A: Hi Jen, The condition sounds interesting, but not necessarily a cause for alarm. As long as it does not seem problematic, infected or particularly painful, you may consider letting it be for a few more days. If it really bothers you, call the doctor. Sounds to me like a loss of skin elasticity, although it may be something else. Best, Eve Q: Twelve years ago, I had breast implants (to please my husband.) I went from a nice size B cup to a small D cup with the augmentation. I am a size 8 normally. Not only have I been plagued with upper back and neck problems all these years, but now one is noticeably larger than the other and my clothes look ridiculous on me. I would love to go back to a healthy size B again. Is this possible and what is the cost? Will insurance pay for any of this? I have saline implants. Please advise. I feel like a 57-year-old deformed for life! Thank you. Sherry A: Hi Sherry, Of course it is possible. You will need to have the implants removed and replaced with smaller ones, (and a lift, most likely) or left out all together, which will also likely require a breast lift. The cost will be determined by the surgeon and area in which you live or have the procedure done. I do not know if your insurance will cover any of this, but most likely not... Best, Eve Q: Hello, my name is Casey I am 24 years old and hate myself....I have had different sized cups my whole life! t-shirts are uncomfortable along with bathing suits...one is an A or B cup and the other is DD....I don't know what to do anymore and I don't have insurance or a lot of money, i just want to feel normal and not worry about people looking at my chest anymore....can you help me PLEASE! Thanks so much! Casey A: Hi Casey, Unfortunately, any solution is going to cost considerable money. You may want to think about starting a dedicated savings program to put away a little bit at a time until you can afford treatment or apply for financing to get the work done. I wish you the best, Eve Q: hello,i am pramoda. am very upset by seeing my breast (flat size) how to increase it? can u plz advice me? my age is 19. my mom is a gynecologist. she said only if want to take estrogen but its long term use may cause cancer. if suppose i can use estrogen, then what dose and how many months? plz suggest me any other ways. plz help me out am being very upset Pramoda A: Hi Pramoda, There is an entire section of the site focused on non-surgical breast enlargement. I advise you take a look through it for your options: http://www.breast-plastic-surgery.org/non-surgical-breast-enhancement.html Personally, I recommend BRAVA for the best result: http://www.breast-plastic-surgery.org/brava-system.html I hope this information helps. Best, Eve Q: I am researching the removal technique of the trilucent soy bean oil implants that were in use back in the 90s. I would really appreciate some help in finding out the exact recommended technique and correct procedure of their explanation. Could you please also advise me on the approximate length of time it would take during the operation to remove the trilucent implants and replace them with alternative implants? Thank you very much in advance. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience. Kind regards, Jane A: Hi Jane, There is no singular answer for these questions, as removals and replacements are on a case by case basis. Some of the factors which will influence how and how long include the original method of implantation, any scar tissue which has built up and the condition of the implant, among others. I hope this info is at least somewhat helpful. Best, Eve Q: I am seriously concerned about what happened to my breast implant. 11 1/2 years ago, I received implants. 9 years after that, one ruptured. I took this opportunity to get a reduction since I was having back issues due to the size. I just wanted them back to a regular looking size for my body type. Therefore, the doctor did a reduction and replaced both implants to a smaller size. 2 years later, I had another rupture on my right implant. My intent was to have just a replacement made. Just "swap the ruptured one out and replace it with the same size". I ended up going to the same facility as was 2 years ago (they had my chart and implant size from last time), I was able to go through them to get the surgery for nearly free because of the Mentor warranty that they could deal with it, but I had a different doctor. He explained that, yes, the amount in each breast was 385 cc's. When he performed the surgery, to his surprise the deflated implant was a 275 filled to over 110% more of it's capacity! The former doctor inflated a 275 cc implant to 385! I don't want to make assumptions, but this would surely constitute why it ruptured, correct? And if that is the case, I will be seeking legal council. Secondly, I am seriously concerned what size is in my left breast and if that is going to do the same thing; rupture! I've contacted the facility and the last doctor (can't get a hold of the former doctor), and asked. He said there's nothing in my chart as to what size is in my left breast, only how much cc's are in there. I've called Mentor and they refuse to tell me; saying I need to have the facility tell me, and the facility doesn't know! HELP!!!! By the way, the last doctor replaced the 275 with a 300 cc and both are full to 385 cc and they look pretty even considering the one breast still needs to "settle" in a few more weeks. My operation was 2 weeks ago. Abbie A: Hi Abbie, Yes, overfill is common, but is usually agreed upon by doctor and patient in advance. It may or may not be the reason for the rupture, but statistics show that it is a definite contributor. I hope that your left fares better over time. Best, Eve Q: I would like to purchase cream for stretch marks, breast reduction and scars. Ditlhora A: Hi Ditlhora, We do not sell any products, we are only an informational resource. These types of products can be acquired from your doctor or local pharmacy. Best, Eve Q: I am concerned with the overfill my doctor did- he used Mentor 2000 350-2325 325cc +65 max fill 390cc, on my right he filled it to 400cc on my left he filled it to 425cc is this normal for this type of implant? These are my replacement since I suffered from CC and when they gave me my old implants I noticed he filled the Mentor HP 310cc to 410cc and 420cc. Now I am concerned that he is overfill crazy and that my breast will not feel soft and natural which was always my main objective. Brenda A: Hi Brenda, Overfill or underfill is an interesting facet of breast augmentation. Originally it was used when a surgeon needed to "even out" the size of the breasts or simply selected the wrong size implant (which happens commonly). Technically, it should not be done at all, but many surgeons routinely do it. Overfill voids the manufacturers warranty and can cause premature rupture. I advise that you talk to your doctor about their decision to fill the implant to such a large and unrecommended amount. I wish you well. Eve Q: Can nipple clamps cause injury? I just cot a set and they are exciting. I'm full busted with flat nipples. Can I cause permanent damage by using this device to stretch my nipples? Joyce A: Hi Joyce, When used sensibly, these devices should not do any damage at all. Of course, if abused, anything can be harmful, including nipple clamps. Don't take it to the extreme and you will be fine. Best, Eve Q: I am really needing some assistance. I am not quit ready to take the step to have the surgery so I am looking into non-surgical breast enhancement options. There are many out there and I have even tried a couple with no success. Is there anyway that you might be able to suggest a product or line of products that have a high rate of working. I would really appreciate your help. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Wendy A: HI Wendy, The only non-surgical solution I recommend is BRAVA. IT is moderately effective, although not cheap. Best, Eve Q: I am 52 years old and recently have developed very tiny (multi) pin point round raised areas under my right breast. They resemble (goose bumps) like when a person gets cold, only these do not go away. There is no soreness. I have an appt. for a routine mammogram later this month. Is this normal. Thanks.Brenda A: Hi Brenda, There are many explanations for these kinds of marks, both innocent and not so much. I recommend you have your doctor give it a look when possible and do not wait too long. Better to be safe than sorry. Let me know how it goes, ok? Best, Eve Q: I had breast implants (silicone) over the muscle a little more than a year ago and my breast have capulated. My doctor recommends removing the impants and placing under the muscle. My doctor but over the muscle since I have sagging breasts. Will the skin sag now? Is it best to do this or but back over the muscle. Diane A: Hi Diane, It is a case by case basis. Typically, as long as the replacement implants are large enough, there should not be sagging issues. Best, Eve Q: Hi i am spoothi, age is 24,Please help him in improving my breast size its just 30.tell me some good tablets or any improvement cream where i can improve my breast sizeplease help me from this problem A: Hi Spoorthi, I do not recommend tablets or creams for breast enlargement, since most are useless scams. The ideal non-surgical approach is using the BRAVA system. Best, Eve Q: Hi, my name is Cindy and I have had 4 breast augmentations due to them always leaking. I am now on my 5th surgery, again due to the implant leaking. I also have quite a few friends who are experiencing the same problems. My one friend is on her 3rd in less than a year. We all have been to the same doctor, same manufacture and same kinds of implants (saline). We don't know what to do about the problem. To have just one replaced is 4200.00 dollars if you go to a different doctor. I have contacted the manufacture requesting an analysis on why they keep leaking. I suggest everyone who has encountered problems should do the same. Of course it is taking a while to get the results. I have called three times and I am still waiting. My new doctor and every other doctor I have talked to cannot believe a person has been through this many surgeries due to them leaking. He even made the comment it's common knowledge that maybe in 7 years you may have to replace them. If it is such common knowledge how come this doctor performing all these surgeries on women cannot see that. I have asked the manufacture why they haven't investigated this doctor and they said it wasn't there problem. Folks that's alot of implants getting sent to the manufacture and then the manufacture turns around and reimburses 1200.00 dollars for every implant sent back. Thank you for taking the time to read my story. Cindy A: Hi Cindy, Yes, I agree. Something is certainly not right here. I have never heard of such as thing before and think you should keep after the issue until you get some satisfaction. Best, Eve Q: I feel very sad and quite helpless right now. My Daughter just had her implants done by a board certified surgeon. She had 400CC in each side. The left is sore but doing well, however the right side isn't doing well. The surgeon said her pectoral muscles were tight and he had to be extra careful on the right side and did a lot of pulling because the nerves we close or on top of the muscle. She is in severe paid on the right side into the underarm, the side of the breast, down the arm and a little bit around the back in the rib area. It has reduced her to tears all day, today being day 2. According to the surgeon she cannot have any more pain meds or muscle relaxor than what she is taking now. She says it isn't even touching the hot searing constant pain. Is this normal? Is there a different med she should be on for possible nerve damage? How do we know that the nerves aren't twisted or torn or for that matter it wouldn't surprise me of some little tool or clip might have got left inside or something. I know that's slightly neurotic, but I have heard of stranger things. Any suggestions at all. She has to go back to work on Monday morning. Right now, that would be impossible. We both don't want her to loose her job. Sincerely, a Mom at a loss. Karen A: Hi Karen, It is impossible to say what is normal, since everyone ahs a different surgical experience, anatomy and pain tolerance. Being that it is only day 2, there is likely to still be considerable pain. Going back to work so soon is unusual and I would tell her to reconsider if the symptoms remain so severe... Give it some time and hopefully, it will all resolve. Best, Eve Q: My wife is 45 years old and has had saline implants for the last 14 years. Just a few days ago we noticed one of her implants had slowly deflated. We wondered what she had done recently to cause this. I reminded her of her mammogram she had 3 and a half weeks earlier. I remember her saying how painful it was. Her last mammogram was about 5 years ago. I did some research on line and found that mammograms were a cause of implant rupture. My wife has seen 2 plastic surgeons to get consultations to address the problem. My question is... Is the doctors office that performed the mammogram in some way financially responsible for this? There doesn't seem to be a way to look at the x-rays and determine if there is actual negligence and the nurse performing the procedure was aware that she did have implants. Also how would you suggest approaching the center that did the mammogram if you believe we should do that at all? Todd A: Hi Todd, These are all excellent questions, but I am a nurse, not a lawyer. I suggest you begin by getting copies of all the disclaimers and waivers she may have signed prior to the test and consulting with legal consul. They will formulate a plan based on knowledge of the exact letter of the law, rather than speculation. I wish you and your wife well. Best, Eve Q: Hi! I'm wondering if i can get breast enlargement on medical card.I cant afford this procedure and really need it.I am flat chested and don't feel like a woman. This can be very depressing. Annmarie A: Hi Annmarie, I do not know of any insurance product which covers cosmetic surgery, only breast reconstruction. Best, Eve Q: Hi,I was diagnosed with DCIS in my right breast and I went in for Mastectomy with free tram flap.It is three months now and my doctor is telling me that i need to go in for another surgery. My concern is that he mentioned I have some hard deposit in my abdomen where I had my surgery. Could you please let me know why this happens and is it necessary for me to go in for another surgery to remove these deposits. Thanking you, shobha A: Hi Shobha, There is no way for me to know why you suffered this complication. Any free tissue graft is particularly risky and is therefore less common. I advise you talk to your doctor about these issues, as they are knowledgeable about your case.Best, Eve Q: Is there any therapeutic courses of breast slapping to increase womens breasts? Kaja A: Hi Kaja, The only place I have seen breast slapping performed seriously and with any results is Thailand. This is the place to look. Best, Eve Q: Which Clinic do you recommend to get breast implants and liposculture at the same time?I don't want saline I want silicone I'm in Korea and I planning to fly to Thailand at the end of July. I will like to find a clinic that have transportation between the Hospital and the Airport... Yuderka A: Hi Yuderka, There are many clinics to choose from which offer the services you are requesting. We do not make personal recommendations, since we can not be responsible for the quality of work for any particular care provider. I can tell you that the quality of work in Thailand is very high and the cost is low. I recommend that you contact several surgeons and choose the one who best represents themselves to you. Best, Eve Q: Hi, I would like to no how much it will cost me to do a tummy tuck. Shanin A: Hi Shanin, The cost will depend greatly on many factors, including where you live, the surgeon you choose and your personal health risks, if any. I advise you consult with several surgeons for more precise quotes. Best, Eve Q: hi my name is Shaun. i'm a crossdresser, i have been crossdressing since i was 12 years old , i'm 45 now and i want too look more like a female, i have always felt i'm a female stuck in this males body and for me i have been really down at times to the point of saying... well anyways, i'm wondering if you guys do the male breasts implants or you can refer me to someone to do it for me, i want to have breasts just like a female, nipples ,and all, please let me know if you can help me out' thank you' Shaun p.s. i'm from Tacoma Wa, if there's anywhere there i can get it done, or i might be able to travel to you, thanks again A: Hi Shaun, We are merely an informational resource. We do not offer any surgical services. I recommend that you contact a local aesthetic medical association for a referral to a surgeon in your area who performs this type of surgery. You may have to travel a bit, but I am sure you can be accommodated. If not in WA, try Colorado... Many procedures are done there as you describe. Best, Eve Q: Hi, What can you tell me about the non-implant procedure done with liposuction where fat is harvested from other parts of body and injected into breasts? I know this system was discussed some years ago, and then basically disappeared due to concerns over calcification issues. Now I see this option is now being promoted again, and doctors say that over time they have realized the calcifications are not serious, and do not likely lead to cancer. What do you know? Thank you. Christine A: Hi Christine, I have an article on the topic here: http://www.breast-plastic-surgery.org/breast-augmentation-using-fat.html Best, Eve Q: I WAS WONDERING HOW MUCH IT WOUD COST ME FOR IMPLANTS ADN IF YOU DO THEM, ON A GUY? I KNOW A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT. SO WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU DO THEM, SINCE ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT. RUSSELL A: Hi Russell, We are an informational resource site. We do not offer cosmetic surgery services. Best, Eve Q: I am a M to F transgender. I am currently in HRT with my endocrinologist. Although I have begun to grow breasts naturally, (just past "budding"), I am VERY interested in having breast implants in the future. The problem, I am having trouble finding a local cosmetic surgeon here in central Fla. I live in Daytona Beach. Can you PLEASE send me a list of transgender surgeons in the greater Orlando/central Fla area. Thank you soooooo much for your assistance,.... Eryka A: Hi Eryka, I would love to help out, but I am based in New York and Thailand. I do not know of any surgeons in your area who I would recommend. I advise contacting a local plastic surgery association for a referral. I wish you all the best! Eve Q: Hi i am Ashley and i need some answers pls. I just turned 15 and i have 3 nipples and i have had trouble with it since 11 with it draining, but lately its got severe pain and drainage alot. i go to obgyn because i have had 4 surgeries do to ovarian cyst and they said birth control would help my 3 nipple and with the cysts, so i started birth control shot. i don't have cyst but with 3 nipple still same place' she said if it did not get better i would have to have it removed And i just wounder what would cause that when i am not sexually active or any of that....My mom had her's removed after i was born and still has trouble with her incision but she wasn't sent to specialist to have it removed. she just had normal surgeon other then my obgyn. she said she would send me to specialist in this...My 3 nipple is under my left breast and it actually causes pain in that breast too But if my dr mentions having surgery again Will it effect me when i am adult and have children and breAst feeding? How long will it take to recover? What are the risk? How would they actually do the surgery?would i be sleep or awake?would i get out same day? Thank you in advance Ashley A: Hi Ashley, I would love to provide you with the answers to your questions, but they are all very case specific and I am not your doctor. I recommend that you DO ask these questions to your doctor and get answers which make sense to you before agreeing to any surgery. Best, Eve Q: I have searched all over to find out what is considered a "normal" level of breast asymmetry. I even e-mailed a plastic surgeon in my area-they wanted me to come in. All I want to know is if 1/2in difference is considered normal, 1 inch is normal, and anything over that isn't. I've read that 1/2 c is equal to 1/2 inch, and 1in is equal to 1 c size. What's the criteria? I know that everyone is different, so I figure there has to be some standard by which a person "measures up". I have a 1 inch difference. My husband says he can't tell when I'm dressed, I don't know if I can really tell or if I know it's there so I notice it. I don't want to do anything (especially if it's true that it's not noticeable), and I definitely don't want implants, I would opt for reduction. I also don't want to waist the time and money of going to a plastic surgeon to be told I'm normal. Valerie A: Hi Valerie, I can answer your question simply... There is no standard of normalcy. Period. Any doctor will tell you the same. Small to moderate variations in breast size are almost universal in women and even large differences do not bother many women. It comes down to how much the size differential affects you emotionally. Best, Eve Q: Hi, I have found your site really informative, particularly the section on nipple augmentation. I have 2 questions I'd like help with, please. Firstly, my nipples. although not inverted, are very small and very light pink in colour. It does affect my self esteem, sometimes it appears I don't have any nipples at all! Is it possible that you could recommend me to a surgeon in the U.K. that is able to perform this procedure? I know not all surgeons undertake this. Secondly, I had breast augmentation 6 years ago, and whilst I am pleased with the size and shape, unfortunately the down side is that I have very dark blue veins which appear on my breasts most of the time. I've tried make-up and false tan to cover them, but nothing is very successful. Again, they make me really self conscious. Is there anything you can recommend? Thank you very much for your time. Diane A: Hi Diane, I am based in New York and Thailand, so I do not know which surgeons in the UK perform the procedure. However, a few calls to a local aesthetic medicine association should provide you with the answer to that question. As far as the veins, this is a very common complaint among women. Unfortunately, there is no easy solution. Some women use cover-up, while others try tanning. There is no easy solution without some considerable downside... I wish I had a better answer for you. Eve Q: i want my breast to look beautiful and attractive-i want natural and herbal way for this.my breast's shape is very bad.firstly i want the shape improvement and then want it enlarged at least 34-36.PLZ REPLY ME THE PARTICULAR ANSWER? Tannu A: Hi Tannu, I do not know of any particular herbal products which work well. I do recommend the BRAVA system for conservative enlargement, but it will do nothing to change the shape of your breasts. Best, Eve Q: I have experienced level II capsular contracture in one breast for about 1 month; it has been about 11 months since my breast augmentation surgery. Does this problem generally worsen w/ time or remain the same? I'm currently taking 20mg of Accolate 2 x's/day and plan to continue for 3 months. I don't want to have surgery to correct the problem unless it becomes very abnormal or painful. Are there any negative long-term affects if the problem persists? THANKS! Kellie A: Hi Kellie, There is no way to predict what may happen with the contracture, since I have seen them go every possible direction... It may improve or worse or remain the same. Treating it non-surgically, but actively gives you a better chance for improvement. There is no real risk for anything more serious with contracture, just the usual stiffness, possible pain, visual deformity and possibility of implant rupture. I hope that your condition improves so that you can enjoy your implant more and also avoid surgery. Best, Eve Q: I had a mastectomy right breast with reconstuction (dorsi muscle) and saline implants. Left breast also saline implant. It is fourteen years later and mammogram of remaining breast with saline implant is showing calcification all around implant. I am scheduled for an ultrasound of same breast. Radiologist thinks saline may be leaking. There is no visible change in the breast. no pain. Is this one of the symptoms of leaking or age??? Jennifer A: Hi Jennifer, Calcification of the scar capsule is common with age. It does not indicate leaking in particular, but it does not discount the possibility either. I hope all works out ok. Best, Eve Q: For about 10 days I have been having excruciating pain in the lateral side of my right breast any time I bend over or lean forward. The pain is especially worse if I am not wearing a bra. My doctor has sent me for physical therapy because she thinks it may be the pec muscle. I have lost a considerable amount of weight in the past six months. I work out regularly. Although I did have some spasming in the pec muscle near the clavicle that does not seem to be the root of my pain. The pain is more into the side of the breast tissue and feels like a burning, tearing pain. What could this be? How can I fix it? Patty A: Hi Patty, I would love to help out, but this is obviously a medical issue and can not be diagnosed from an email. If you do not like or trust the advice your doctor gave you, I suggest you either raise an objection or consult a new physician. Please let me know if you discover what the issue turns out to be. Best, Eve Q: I'm looking to have a breast enlargement in a few months using the TUBA procedure. Can you tell me what clinics do this in the uk? And is it more expensive than the other breast enlargement procedures? Thanks, Bonnie A: Hi Bonnie, I am based in New York, so I do not know who performs TUBA in the UK. However, the procedure is very common, so you should have no trouble finding a qualified surgeon there. No, the procedure is generally not more expensive than any other form of implantation. In fact, it may be cheaper than some, since saline implants cost less than silicone. Best, Eve Q: hi i'm 25 years old and before i had my first child aged 16 i was a 34c breast but after i had him and breast fed for about 2 weeks and stopped my breast wet down to a 32a , this has depressed me since i feel very uncomfortable when out wont let my partner touch me i wont even have sex when i go out i cover up with baggy clothes etc , when i had my 2nd child i found a lump in my breast but was told it wasn't cancer but was also told i had no muscle in my breasts this has put me down as they said my breast will not grow anymore i want to feel like a women and be able to go out with my head held high , i've been to my doctors and went for counseling but was told not in many words that i only want them for modeling this has destroyed my life and cant face going to the doctors again i've tried everything i can think of pills , chicken fillets ,pumps ,creams and nothing is working i cant cope with it any longer my partner has noticed i'm staying in alot more and hes getting frustrated as i don't want to have sex as feel very uncomfortable please help i have tried to get money for a breast enlargement but with 4 children its very hard ,with my 4th child i breast fed for a year and felt great with my boobs but now there gone i'm depressed again. Annmarie A: Hi Annmarie, You might consider trying Brava non-surgical enhancement. It is much less expensive than breast implants, but also offers more conservative results. Best, Eve Q: hi i am 2 years post op in june 2009, in jan this year without any injury or any other changes my right breast swelled to twice the size of my left breast and was very tender, i went to my surgeon who sent me for a scan which showed the implant was fine, i then had a breast biopsy which withdrew blood and no infection evident this has now settled down and has a slight contracture and is a bit firmer than it was only really noticeable when i lie down, just when i thought things were getting better my left breast has now swollen up but is only a bit tender! what do i do? accolate vitamin e? my surgeon has only offered me surgery which right now i don't feel is necessary. please help. kind regards, angie A: Hi Angie, It is difficult to advise you based only on an email, but you can try a variety of non-surgical treatments, as there is little risk in any of them. If they work, that is great. if not, then surgery is always a final option. Best, Eve Q: hi right now i am 17 and i had a kid at 15 so my breasts are not the same size any more. they sag, and have stretch marks. but i was thinking about having a breast implants when i'm 18 or so, but if i have another kid what will happen to my now perfect breasts. how much will it cost to get breast implants? another question i still have alot of baby weight on me how much would it cost to get liposuction? would that make my stretch marks go away on my stomach and thighs? thank you very much, Stephanie A: Hi Stephanie, Having breast implants will not stop the normal degeneration of breast tissue experienced while pregnant and nursing. In fact, it may actually escalate the process. Liposuction will not get rid of stretch marks, just fatty tissue. It is impossible to quote you a cost, since many factors determine this figure, including where you live, your particular health conditions, the type of implants and procedure you choose and the surgeon you use. I recommend consulting with a few local doctors for a price. Best, Eve Q: When revision of augmentation mammoplasty as a result of capsule contraction is to be performed for the third time what would be the anticipated blood loss before and after surgery? Owen A: Hi Owen, There is no way for me to comment on what is normal, given that I have no idea of the patients history factors or any other reasons which may have induced such bleeding. I can tell you in general, that this is not normal for most cosmetic surgery and the risk factors which would induce this kind of bleeding often preclude a patient as a candidate for surgery to begin with... Best, Eve Q: Hello there, I have a condition called Marfan syndrome, which means connective tissue disorder. I have 2 metal heart valves and my aorta is enlarged. I have very small breasts, I'm an A cup. I have looked into breast enlargement operations but no doctor has given me the go ahead because of my heart condition. I have just found Brava enhancement on Google which is a dome placed over your breast and it stimulates your own breast tissue, you wear the sports bra for 10 hours a day for up to 14 weeks. It appealed to me because it is non invasive. Any help you can give would be much appreciated as I am looking into everything I can find as I would really love even slightly bigger breasts. Thank you, Jackie A: Hi Jackie, I have several articles on the system here and highly recommend it: http://www.breast-plastic-surgery.org/brava-system.html Just remember that it provides generally conservative results. Best, Eve Q: I have had implants for 30 years. I have never had a problem and also nursed my son. I am now 62 years old a young 62 and have learned that my implants have ruptured since 2005. They have not moved and are contained in the outer capsule. I can not afford to have new ones put in. My insurance will only pay to have them removed, but I do not want to look awful. Since they have not moved can I leave them as is. Thank you, Victoria A: Hi Victoria, I do not know what type of implants you have, but it is not advised to leave damaged prostheses inside the body. I completely understand your concern with cost however... The implant may be secure in scar tissue, but once damaged, the shell can develop a sharp edge which may injure you internally and the contents of the implant can migrate inside your body. It is better to remove them and deal with the aesthetic issues. Best, Eve Q: I am interested in a breast reduction however than i would like implants. I am currently a droopy DD and would like implants to be a small C. is this possible? to remove fatty tissue than to add implants?also wondering appropriately how much think would cost? Dawn A: Hi Dawn, It is certainly possible, but most surgeons recommend simply saving enough organic tissue to make your breasts the size you prefer. It is far easier, less expensive and less invasive to do it this way. Cost varies greatly depending on where you live, the surgeon and the specifics of your case. I recommend consulting with several surgeons to give yourself some reference. Best, Eve Q: Why isn't there a breast implant, saline or otherwise, for a flat chested post radical mastectomy patient? An implant, usually placed underneath an existing breast, makes that breast appear larger, right? Well, even with transflap surgery from either the back or abdomen, the implant cannot give a post mastectomy patient a real enough looking breast! I have had a standard implant placed in my chest, along with the muscle from my back to give the chest a little something! But, it now looks like a hamburger bun attached to my chest wall. I am well aware that at my age, 62, a breast should not be so important. But, it is my self esteem that has affected me and I have suffered for it. I have tried to explain this situation to my surgeon. But, all I get is the same ole same ole. I want you to design an implant for woman like myself, who had everything taken away after a mass of cancer was removed and my chest wall scraped clean of any tissue. I have thought of designing one for myself and submitting it to a patent office. But, this is a subject that must be addressed asap! I am scheduled to have the implant, now surrounded by scar tissue, removed in the next 3 months. I would really appreciate an implant that would make my breast look real! Dianne A: Hi Dianne, This is a common complaint of some women after reconstruction. However, many women are thrilled with their results. I have seen acceptable aesthetics and truly amazing outcomes, all based on the talent and precision of the surgeon. The technology already exists to create a nice look in most women, however it is not always utilized to its fullest potential. Best, Eve Q: I have big breasts and like the way implants look, is there anyway I could get implants that are smaller than my breast without getting a reduction? I am scared of getting reduction done now because I am planning to have more kids and I have friends that have implants and their breasts look great even after kids. Kristi A: Hi Kristi, This idea has been asked many times before, but is not feasible. Small implants will simply disappear in your natural tissue, like dropping a grape in a glass of water... The very thing that makes the look you like is the fact that these women have elected to go larger, changing the placement of the breasts in the process. I hope you can find a solution which works well for you. Best, Eve Q: i just went through breast lift to make my breast smaller i have 250cc implants mt third set and ended up still being 34DD so they went in and removed tissue and skin to try and make them smaller. I'm just now wondering is it normal to have a very raised scar which looks like they brought the tissue together and sutured them so i have a long scare with all the tissue above sticking out ! will this flatten down with time or will it flatten once they remove the sutures i'm so scared of the out come i so far have not had the very best results i just want to know if this is the normal procedure??? please help me put my mind at ease. Angie A: Hi Angie, Every scar is different and it is quite impossible to give you an opinion without a visual of the condition. If you have concerns, make sure to talk to your surgeon or get a second opinion. Revising scars is often best done early, if needed. Best, Eve Q: I was wondering if this was a common issue but I wanted to ask because to me it seems like a bit weird. I am only 20 and never had a kid but since I was about 16 I have already had milk in my breast and still do. I feel embarrassed to talk about it to anyone. Thank You, Yelizaveta A: Hi Yelizaveta, It is not common, but it is not rare either. many women produce milk when they are not pregnant, in response to hormonal conditions in their bodies. This is usually nothing to be concerned about, but I would mention it to your doctor just to be safe. Best, Eve Comment: I had ruptured both, I know that the silicone was in my lymph nodes including the tail of my lymph nodes. I have asked my dr. to have an ultrasound. i want to know where the silicone has moved to. i have knots on elbows and hands. Faye A: Hi Faye, Good luck with the ultrasound and I hope you can get your health sorted out for the best. How old were those silicone implants? Eve Followup Q: Hi Eve, They were about 6 yrs old. Which would be the best to show where the silicone has migrated to. MRI Or Ultrasound. my current MD does not want to be involved. the ultrasound I had in Cleveland, 9 yrs ago. showed several lymph nodes. I am concern about how it migrates into other parts of your body. from my research on them. I wish what I know now, is 4 yrs to late. My daughter was of age saved her money. Repeated her mother. She has got saline, What have they not told us about the bag that they put the saline in. any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Faye A: Hi Faye, MRI is location specific and will take some time to perform multiple scans to cover the anatomy. This might be prohibitive for insurance purposes. Ultrasound is not as comprehensive, but far faster and more versatile. This would probably be the best way to go. Please let me know how you are doing and the results of your tests. Best, Eve Q: Hello. I don't want breast implants or anything. I was wondering if there is some type of surgery to just tighten up the pectoral muscles. It seems that a lot of women would like a less invasive type of procedure than the current breast lifts and to me it seems that if they can tighten the abdominal muscles during a tummy tuck they would tighten the pectoral muscles. Is there such a procedure? Thanks. MJ A: HI MJ, There would be no benefit to this, as the breast tissue lies on top of the pectorals. This is why exercise might help the pecs, but does little, if anything, for ptotic breasts. Breast lift is effective since it tightens the actual breast tissue and supporting structures. Best, Eve Q: Hi and thanks so much for your website, it is great. My name is Lara and I live in Ottawa and this is my question for you:QUESTION: Can you please give me the names of surgeons in OTTAWA (or if any, in MONTREAL) who actually practice the TUBA method of breast augmentation because I tried and cannot find any in the yellow pages or the internet. PLEASE email me directly with the answer to my question as I would sincerely appreciate your help. MERCI and THANK YOU. sincerely, Lara A: Hi Lara, I am based in New York and really do not know who practices TUBA in your area. I am sure other plastic surgeons would know. Have you inquired at the plastic surgery clinics at local hospitals? This would be my advice. Best, Eve Q: 1977 implants removed from ruptured right side 1999. Now I am having 2009 recurring infections in right side of what is left of my own breast. What should I do? what doctor should I see for this? I am 57 poor part time Walmart worker and going to college. thank you, Shirley A: Hi Shirley, I recommend talking to your general practitioner about referring you to a specialist based on the exact nature of infections you are suffering from. I hope that you can find a lasting cure in the near future! Best, Eve Q: Do you or anyone you know give free breast implants? i'm 23 and a mother of three. i'm very depressed and have no self-esteem at all,i feel ugly because my breasts are small. could you please help me by making my dreams come true in getting bigger breast? thank you. Sherry A: Hi Sherry, We are not surgeons and do not perform augmentation operations. In the past, I have advised women to seek a media outlet for this purpose (radio or TV show) and I know at least 3 who have been successful... Best, Eve Q: I have been looking into getting cosmetic surgery to correct my uneven breasts (one is B and one D). I have 2 questions regarding this: 1. Have you heard of insurance possibly covering something like this? 2. I am overweight by about 100 pounds, but have no health problems. Would they still do the breast surgery or do I need to lose weight? Jenn A: Hi Jenn, There is no absolute answer to your questions. I have heard of insurance carriers covering the costs of surgery which is proven to be "plastic, reconstructive or restorative" while they will certainly not cover "cosmetic". The burden is finding a doctor who will appeal on your behalf that this is the case. Relating to the second question as well... individual doctors view weight as a risk to varying extents. If you are healthy, you might be fine now for surgery. You might be asked to attempt to lose some or most of the weight by some doctors. My advice is to simply ask... I wish you the best, Eve Q: I had implants in 1989. I have three questions: 1. How long do implants last? 2. What is the replacement cost? 3. Where is the best place for the incision? Bonnie A: Hi Bonnie, There is no way to know how long implants last. Some women suffer ruptures or leaks within months of augmentation. Other women have implants over 30 years old which are still fine. It is truly a case by case basis...Replacement cost varies greatly due to surgeon fee differences and geographical location. Once again, very case specific. However, many implants do come with a lifetime replacement warranty which helps to cover surgical costs. There really is no best place, just the place which suits the patient the best. Each person has different criteria to judge what works ideal for them. Personally, given my experience in the industry for many, many years, I prefer transumbilical or transaxillary, since these incisions do not harm the breast itself or alter the glandular or supportive structures. I hope this info helps! Best, Eve Q: I am 36 year old. 5 feet 6 inches and 140 pounds. I have had three breast enlargement procedures the last being 800cc silicon. I would like to go larger if available; what are my options and where could the procedure be carried out.Thank you in advance; Veronica. A: Hi Veronica, Many surgeons would not want to make you larger, but some surely will do whatever you request, as long as it does not present a serious health risk. You may have to consult with a few surgeons to find one who can increase your size willingly and safely. I hope you can find the right doctor for you and please let us know how your surgery goes. Best, Eve FOLLOWUP Q: Hello Eve and thank you for your e-mail. Perhaps you could answer the question as to what sizes are available for breast augmentation above the silicone implant size I currently have of 800cc. Again your help would be appreciated. Veronica A: Hi Veronica, In the US, I have seen 850cc silicone and 1200cc saline. However, there are many custom manufacturers who work with surgeons who specialize in extra large implants throughout the world. I recommend finding a surgeon who would do the procedure to start inquiring with them the largest size which would work for you. Best, Eve Q: HI, I am 20 years old and all my life i have dealt with large breasts. I have had back problems since i could remember and headaches and i have a one year old daughter and before i got pregnant i was a 36D and now after having my daughter and losing all my baby weight and stop breast feeding i now wear a bra size 36e and i should be in an f is what i was told. I have constant back ache i have been referred to physical therapy and massage therapy for, i have headaches (with short hair), i was recently told by my doctor that my hips are out of line and because of this i walk funny and have hip problems, my breasts sag a lot and one of them is bigger than the other, i cant get down and play with my daughter and its affecting work, and i used to dance and had perfect posture and now i almost feel like i have a hunch back, It affects the way i see myself sometimes i don't feel pretty because of them and i used to get depressed around prom time and summer when i was in high school because it was so hard to find a dress that fit in the boob area. I am 5'5 165 lbs with a small frame and my boobs make me feel bigger than i am. I recently talked with my doctor about getting a reduction if my insurance will do it. So my question is To you am i a good candidate for the surgery in your opinion do you think my insurance will cover? And i was think about going down to a full C is this too small of will they give me what i want???? Thank you in advance and your site is very helpful. Britany A: Hi Britany, Like most people involved in the plastic surgery industry, I try not to advise people whether or not surgery is right for them. Most already know inside and simply want reassurance. If this is the case, go with your gut instinct... It is a very personal decision and should be completely up to you, once you know all the facts. Remember to consider the upside and downside equally when making your choice. As far as insurance coverage, it could go either way. There are simply too many variables to predict, but I am hopeful for you. Let me know what you decide and also about the insurance, when you find out! Best, Eve Q: Hello, I am wanting enlargement surgery but have no money. I am a 38 year old stay at home mom with 2 teens and a husband who wont pay for breast enlargement of any kind. I have office skills and am willing to do office work to work off my bill or be video taped for educational purposes/medical teaching...things of that nature. My husband tells me that if I come up with the money by myself I can get it done but I am a homemaker and have not worked since the kids were babies, but I was an admin assistant and I did have 3 years of college so I may be able to help you out in some office type way. I don't know. I am just brain storming. I do not have the money, but I have very flat deflated breast, especially after losing weight and having children and it really affects my self esteem. Is there any way you would think about helping me out. I do not want to do one of those slutty sites where I have to about prostitute out my body like porn to raise money. That is sick. I just don't know where else to turn. I know I cant raise enough money selling little things on ebay. Please email me back. Thank you for your time, Stacey A: Hi Stacey, We are not surgeons and do not perform breast enlargement surgery. I am a surgical nurse, but you have to find a doctor to do the operation. I wish you well in your quest and hope you can find someone to help you. Best, Eve Q: I am 36 years old and had breast surgery in February 2002. I went from a 36AA to a 36D. I was so pleased with my results, until around 18 months ago when I noticed my right breast had started to change. It was very painful and felt quite lumpy. I visited the consultant surgeon who carried out the initial procedure and he told me I had grade 2 capsule formation. He told me there was nothing I could do, but wait until I felt I could live with it no longer and then go back to him to have further surgery. Within 6 months the left breast had gone the same way and in January of this year I decided that the time had come to sort them out. I had a consultation with my surgeon and was booked in for capsulectomy and implant replacement on 28th January. All was well until the 5th week after surgery when I noticed the right breast was swollen and I had "shooting" pains in the nipple. I returned to the hospital and the nurse gave me anti inflammatories and booked me an appointment with the consultant. I visited him last week (week 6 after op) and he has told me I have grade 2 capsule formation in my right breast again. He informed me he had not seen reformation so quickly before and said that there wasn't much he could do except wait until I require surgery again, but he could not guarantee any results. So now I have 1 breast that looks and feels normal and 1 that is hard and swollen resembling the way they both were before. I have not yet been discharged and I am still under his care following the operation. What are the possibilities that the second procedure was not carried out correctly and should I expect to have further surgery without further charge - I have just paid out £5000 for this procedure and I am so upset? And do you think I should seek a second opinion?I look forward to your response. Shelly A: Hi Shelly, I can certainly understand your being upset. In all my experience with plastic surgery, capsular contracture is one of the most mysterious and problematic events to deal with. No one is sure why it occurs to some women, but not others. Fast recurrences like yours are extremely rare, but they do occur. I can not advise you on the fee or the need to pay twice, but I certainly would not want to... I would do everything possible to insure a fee free new procedure, or at least at a reduced cost, if at all available... I might also consider a second opinion, especially if my surgeon gave me any reasons for doubt. I hope this info helps you and I am truly sorry for your experience. Best, Eve Q: hi, i am a 26 year old female. i have been experiencing breast swelling and sore breasts for a week now, im not pregnant as i have been tested. what worries me the most is that there is a milk like liquid that comes out of my right breast if i squeeze it a little? i have never had children before, is this normal? please your help will be greatly appreciated. kind regards, jacqui A: Hi Jacqui, I recommend you go to your doctor or gynecologist immediately to be sure there is nothing seriously wrong with your breast. It is possible for women to lactate without pregnancy, but this is rare. Let me know what the doctor says, so that I know you are alright... Best, Eve Q: Where do I find out what type of rebate I can get on a ruptured implant. I also cannot find my card with my identification number on it. Any suggestions? I know the date of my surgery and location. Carla A: Sure Carla, Contact your surgeon. They will have all the information you need. Best, Eve Q: Yes -I'm trying to find a decent price for cotton bra inserts for a mastectomy bra. I have been all over the internet -I miss the right link somehow. Please help if you can . Are there any organizations that can help with the bras . lost job, unemployed and uninsured, Thanks-Jacquelyn A: Hi Jacquelyn, I am not sure if there are any organizations which help, but I think you might be able to find the cotton pads relatively cheaply if you continue to search. For financial assistance concerning these devices, I recommend contacting a local hospital, where they may have a community outreach program in effect. Best, Eve Q: Hi, i had breast implants just under 4 weeks ago and i've got a small blood clot in my left breast it is much bigger than the other one in size, there's not a lot of pain but it is uncomfortable and the swelling goes up and down,i have 3 young children to look after and its getting me down a little, i've been told it could take up to 3 months to settle down, could you tell me if it's safe to continue as i am or if i should have the op done again on the one. thanks for your time. Jo A: Hi Jo, It is impossible to know the exact nature of the clot by email. If your surgeon has told you it is ok and normal, and you trust the doctor, then I would advise you to relax. Doctors have very strict liability requirements and would not give you health advice lightly... If you doubt this recommendation, then I advise you to find a new doctor and get a second opinion immediately. I hope it all works out for you. Please drop me a line and let me know how you are doing. Best, Eve Q: Do you know when the current Cohesive Gel Implant study will be complete? Do you know if the study is still taking participant? I have had bilateral breast reconstruction surgery but one side failed, probably due to lack of blood supply (radiation). I would be interested in getting the cohesive implants. Thank you. Gail A: Hi Gail, If you are referring to the Mentor/Allergan 410 implant study, it is scheduled to end this month. I am not sure if there are still any available positions, but you can contact any of the doctors involved in the study to find out. I advise acting fast... Best, Eve Q: Hello, I have been troubled with asymmetrical breasts since 14 years of age. I have been to numerous Dr.s discussing augmentation to correct it. First they told me I was too young, then said they'd change after I had children. Then after years of anguish two failed marriages and intimacy problems because of it, I still am having trouble getting a surgeon to apply for the procedure to be done and covered. I am horrified at the insensitive feedback I have received over the last 46 years. My question is "How much emotional anguish does a woman have to endure for a chance at looking normal and proud of her body? I am a Double A on the left and a C on the right. Help me if you can to find a surgeon in British Columbia that would understand my pain. Sincerely, Heather A: Hi Heather, We do not have a surgeon referral service, but that does not prevent me from understanding and appreciating your emotional pain. That is precisely why I started this site to begin with... I thin the issue is finding a surgeon who will accept coverage, especially in a relatively small surgical market, such as BC. Your chances will be improved if you look outside the immediate area or are willing to front the cost out of pocket. Best, Eve Q: Hello, As a transitioning MtF woman, I started working on breast enlargement three years ago. Through trial and error, weeding out the fraudulent, I was able to find what worked for me. Teas, oils, hydrotherapy, positive reinforcement, daily massage and more. I don't suggest this will work for everyone. I've always been a little fleshy in the chest so possibly I'm pre-disposed to breast growth, I don't know, but I do have a respectable C cup now. My question is, men's breasts always seem to fall off to the side. As I've become bigger they are more centered, but they don't hang out in front the way many women of that size do. I don't really want more size but is there any way (exercise, massage) that will get me more 'front & center'? I thought the male & female breast were identical except for the hormone influence. Thank you, Joan A: Hi Joan, Many MtF assignees have reported good results with breast slapping in Thailand. You might consider investigating this option, as an all natural possible solution for your placement issues. Best, Eve Q: I'm a male looking for ways to increase areola size. Your site mentions there are options for this, but I'm wondering how many options there are. The only thing I have heard of is micropigmentation, but searching the web doesn't produce pics of increasing areola size--there are only pics of areola recreation. Do you have any examples of increasing areola diameter? Thanks Ryan A: Hi Ryan, Old school methods involve skin grafts, typically from inside the thigh. Newer methods almost always revolve around cosmetic tattooing, which is a far better and easier option. This is my advice for you. Best, Eve Q: Hello, I am a 26 yr old mother of 2 babies (since sterilized so no more breastfeeding). I am 5'4 and weigh 120. I had a normal 34B prior to having my children and after breastfeeding both, I am a miserable and saggy 34DD. My breasts are large, heavy and drooping. They don't "match" me anymore. I want to know if my expectations are at all realistic prior to a consult with my surgeon. I am wanting an overall reduction in size, a lift and the shape of an implant (but volumetrically being smaller than I am now). Essentially, I want to reduce my breast tissue, Lift and put in a very low CC implant to go back to my B size. Is this possible? Thanks for the response. I am NOT happy with pictures I see of just a lift and reduction. I want a "rounder and perkier" look. Thanks so much! Alison A: Hi Alison, Of course it is possible, but you have to find an excellent surgeon to achieve excellent results. Most surgeons advise against a lift with implants in most cases, since there is simply no need. The overwhelming majority of women have more than enough organic tissue to fill out the breast. However, some doctors specialize in this techniques and can achieve terrific results. I advise you to take your time and shop around to find the perfect surgeon for your needs. Best, Eve Q: i am a transgender mtf. i am just starting. can you tell me the cost of enlargement. pls and tks Darren A: Hi Darren, Cost of any cosmetic surgery procedure depends greatly on the location, the surgeon and the circumstances of the operation. I advise you to seek out qualified surgeons in your area and get estimates based on your specific case. Once you consult with several surgeons, you can make a knowledgeable decision based on total cost and comfort with that doctor. Best, Eve Q: Dear Sir/Madam, How are you.I have visited your website.I want to discuss a matter with you that my wife suffered breast cancer but now she has cured. She is now well but she has lost her one breast (Means taken off one breast).I want to make an artificial breast because when she wear clothes then she will not feel complete.I hope that you can do this easily. If it is possible then please tell me the price and obliged me.I hope you would accede to my request and reply me soon.Your Sincerely, TANVEER A: Hi Tanveer, Of course it is possible. She can have a prosthetic breast made for her or even undergo breast reconstruction surgery. I recommend that you have her consult with a specialist who can provide her with all her options. Best, Eve Q: I would like to know what the criteria is for OHIP coverage, and also what is the amount that OHIP will cover?I have had a gastric bypass and I am looking to have the skin removed. Stomach, breasts and arms. I am mostly concerned about the stomach and the breasts because I am getting ulcers under the skin. I am asking if OHIP will cover this because it is a medical reason, and if they do what is the amount they will cover? Thank you for taking the time to listen to my questionVicki A: Hi Vicki, I am based in New York and not familiar with the policies of OHIP. I recommend you contact them directly for the answers to your questions. I wish you well, Eve Q: I am a 36 year old who has had nipple discharge, now for over 4 years it happens from both sides and comes with breast pain.I have had mammagrams, biopsys, ultra sounds nipple smears.I was sent to a specialist and she said that this does happen and that my breast are malargic. And that i will have to live with it,this is very discomforting and embarrassing.I really struggle to deal with this everyday, the discharge color is very dark green which looks like infection to me..Any way my question is would breast implants be away for me to go??I don't want implants just for something to do,i just don't know how much longer i can deal with this..I would really value your opinion.Yours Truly, Michelle A: Hi Michelle, I do not think that breast implants will do anything to cure your condition. It seems that you might investigate removal of some of the glandular tissue, but this will obviously have significant consequences for you. I am surprised that your diagnosis is so vague and that no doctor can seem to find an effective treatment. It sounds strange to me... I would consider a second opinion... Best, Eve Q: I am a 27-year-old woman, of normal height and body structure. However, my breasts have been growing about 1 cup size per month for the last year or so. I am now in a 36JJ bra, and my insurance is evaluating my request for breast augmentation (reduction) surgery. Could this be a problem of my breast tissue, or my pituitary gland? Are there any specific tests I can ask my physician to perform? If so, what tests? She has never experienced anything like my case before, and has made inquiries but this is extremely strange. None of my physicians will allow me to have a mammogram because of the size of my breasts. I have had an ultrasound done, but nothing unusual showed up. There is no chance I am pregnant as my Husband is deployed, and has been for quite awhile.I am on the same bc (birth control) pills that I have been on for over 4 years, and just within the last year have "the twins" noticeably increased on a regular basis while the rest of my body stays the same. I wish I were a "D" again. The last time I remember being that small was as a Freshman in highschool. The surgery I am waiting for will bring me back down to a high B/low C (within the normal range). I will contact my physician and request these tests. She is a small-town family doctor, and, like I said, my case is extremely strange to her 30+ years experience. Cassandra A: Hi Cassandra, To me, it sounds like some form of breast hypertrophy. I have an article about this on my site. I think you need to get to a physician who has a bit more experience in dealing with these types of issues. Make sure to get diagnosed prior to undergoing reduction surgery, to avoid potentially dramatic regret... Best, Eve Q: I had breast augmentation on 2/13/09. I am 4'11" 120 lbs. I already had a large b or very small c cup. So I went with 225 saline filled to 250 smooth round moderate profile by mentor and were placed under the muscle in via crease(under breast). So it's only been twelve days. My left breast feels almost like my own breast already. It seems to have dropped at least more than the other side. My right side feels high, tight, uncomfortable and I can feel it when I bend down, move my arm, drive, ect.. I'm told I can start massaging on Friday. Wearing no strap just the bra they put on me after surgery 24/7. I am having a personality issue with my surgeon and am now discouraged from asking any more questions. So I wonder if this is a normal time period for a breast to stay so high up in the chest area. I specifically had the surgery when I did because I wanted to give myself a full three months before I go with Hawaii with my husband and his FAMILY! Wondering if maybe not wearing the bra while I sleep would help it drop better. I am also still sleeping sitting up because I am a side sleeper and can feel the right breast when I try either side. Thanks so much for any information or insight. Ronnie A: Hi Ronnie, Your complaints are completely normal (outside of the personality conflict with your surgeon...) for a postoperative result of only a couple of weeks. It is way to early to start worrying or second guessing your surgeon's instructions. Just continue with what you are supposed to do for now and allow healing to happen. However, you should not be afraid to ask questions to your doctor as they have a medical and ethical responsibility for you. Do not be afraid of being bothersome...It is their job to help and reassure you. If you have a real problem with the surgeon, consider reporting them to their medical board or local department of state. Best, Eve Q: I have had 2 breast reduction surgeries. The last oneone year ago. I was reduced from a 38DDD to 38D. Within3 months, I was back to the original size. I have been to3 gyn's at my surgeons advice. They have never heard of this problem. My hormone levels were in the slightly highrange, but nothing alarming. Have you ever heard of thisproblem? I need help! Pauline A: Hi Pauline, Yes, I have heard of it many times before. Many women have some mild to moderate form of breast hypertrophy, which entails constant or recurrent breast growth. This condition can be treated chemically or surgically. However, it sometimes stabilizes by itself. Best, Eve Q: Hi there my name is Ashleigh, i had augmentation over the muscle with cohesive gel implants 3 years ago, i have what feels like a bubble in my left breast, i have been to the surgeon and asked if everything was ok, he stated that as i have a stretch mark just on top of that area it could be that the implant is slightly closer to the skin, the shape and size is still the same what do you think that is could be? Ashleigh A: Hi Ashleigh, Your surgeon could be right. Other explanations range from scar tissue to capsule formation to implant debris to breast cancer or benign tumor. If you have doubts, go get a second opinion. This certainly can't hurt... Best, Eve Q: hi, i am a 30 years old female, not yet married, lost 22 kg of weight,my height id 1.56 and my current weight is 54, was 73. i have now saggy breast, moderate and no volume breast. i've read about the benelli lift, so its fine for my situation because i need in future to breast feed my children. so is it possible to breast feed after such a lift? Asma A: Hi Asma, There is always a risk of losing the ability to breastfeed after any breast surgery, and even more so with one which operates on the nipple/areola complex. You should discuss these risks with your surgeon and then make an informed choice whether or not the procedure is right for you. Best, Eve Q: I had Surgitek Bilumen implants put in in October 1987. Absolutely no problems for over 20 years... however now left breast has lump on the side. (Disappears when I move implant away) Does this mean that now, after all these years, one is leaking? Do I need to have them replaced? Not sure what to do. Pat A: Hi Pat, This question is easy. You need to go to your doctor to get a thorough checkup to rule out anything serious in your breast.. The lump may be implant material or something organic, such as scar tissue. You just need to be sure it is not cancer or other tumorous growth. Let me know how it goes and what the doctor finds, ok? Best, Eve Q: Is breast reconstruction an option for me? I am 43, have my breasts but I appear to be flat as my small breasts sag like empty balloons and the nipples sag even more inwards towards my body. I was small breasted and nursed 4 kids. i can't have a relationship, even my daughter has said i look gross when she saw me changing. I am not going to get implants. A woman told me her breasts were reconstructed following removal due to cancer. she has huge breasts and i want to know if mine can be reshaped/filled out by similar reconstructive techniques. thank-you, Jodine A: Hi Jodine, Typically, breast reconstruction is reserved for women who lose a breast due to trauma or disease. You are eligible for lift and enlargement, but this is not reconstruction, which is covered under most major health insurance plans... What you are looking for is a cosmetic change. In order to enlarge your breasts, it is likely that you will require implants, although some surgeons may consider an all natural tissue enlargement, instead. Be warned, this is invasive surgery, if you can find a cosmetic surgeon to perform it on a healthy breast, which is unlikely... If you really want to rectify the situation, implants and a lift are my advice... Best, Eve Q: Hi Eve, Thanks for making a great website! I am only 15, but fear my breasts will not grow very big, since my moms and sisters are so small. I was thinking about implants when I am older, but your site showed me that there are options that do not require surgery, so I am happy. Nothing to do yet, but hope for the future! Peggy A: Hi Peggy, Maybe you will not need any help as you getr older. Your breasts may grow large enough for you or you may change your attitude and feel that small is fine for you. If not, at least you do have many options, surgical and noninvasive. I send you my best, Eve Q: I had b/a 21 years ago and I am considering replacing my implants next month. I have never been happy with my first augmentation. I went from 32aa to 32b. I am 52 years old, 4'11", and I weigh 80 pounds. I would like to have 600cc's in each breast this time because I would like to be a d or dd. I realize there would be rippling but that does not bother me because the implants I have now ripple. Do you think 600cc's would be ok for me? I want to be happy with the results this time. I would appreciate your advice. Beverly A: Hi Beverly, Size is a personal choice and even most surgeons do not advise as to which is right for any particular individual. In my opinion, 600cc is way too large for a tiny woman your size, but it all depends on your desires. I think you could achieve the look you want with a much smaller implant. Best, Eve Q: I was wondering how much laser breast implants would cost? and where i can get lotions to make my breast bigger? Janine A: Hi Janine, There is no such thing as laser breast implants. There is laser breast lift. Additionally, I do not recommend any topical products for breast enlargement, since most are completely ineffective. Best, Eve Q: I have been doing research now for about two years. i am now 34 years old. My teenage daughter will soon have larger breasts than I do. I have been wanting implants since after I had my son who is fifteen. I have always been afraid to have implants. All the stories you hear about and I want to know they feel real. Or at least realistic. I have heard some guys say they are bad and some say that you can not tell. Ok now my question I tried out a non surgical system that was supposed to have great results and got nothing. I followed all the suggestions. It was cream and pills and you had to do exercises and not drink caffeine or anything. Any way no results. I have been reading about brava for a long time. I want to know if it really works I know that i can get it at a lot of plastic surgeons offices here in MNPLS. But does it do what it says. Do you know of a way to try one out to see if you can tolerate it before you purchase one. I think the price is high and to hear some people can not use it due to lifestyle or discomfort. I want to know that first. If I am going to spend that much money on non surgical device I want to know I have a great chance of getting what I want otherwise I will just wait and do the surgery. Thank you for your help. Also I read on here about hypnosis? That's a definite alternative. Thanks so much for your time and help. Cathy A: Hi Cathy, I am an advocate of BRAVA and think it is a great system for women who want conservative breast enlargement and are willing to put up with the considerable time line and lack of convenience. Using BRAVA will in no way replicate surgical breast enlargement, so if that is your goal, forget it. It will likely provide a moderate increase in size, but no change in shape or placement as are common with breast implants. Hope this info helps, Eve Q: Hi, Thanks for a wonderful site. I have a question. I am being referred to have breast reduction surgery next week. I have DJD with other major disk related issues. I have had 9 foot surgeries as well and have gained a lot of excess pounds. I am 54, 5'4, 232. My breasts have always been very large, even when I was rail thin. I wear a 42 F. (I am not sure I am fitted right) Due to my back problems and extreme pain, the reduction will be done FIRST to alleviate a lot of discomfort. I have one, take that back, two questions. After I loose some weight, what can I expect? and Question 2, can they put implants in with a breast reduction to stop them from sagging? My breasts are insanely large even for my weight (family curse for a couple of us). I need to get these physical limitations taken care of since I sure don't want to have the burden of large heavy breasts with DJD. My situation is mild/moderate (some areas of the back are worse than others) at the moment and I am only 54, so I would like the best realistic results that I can possibly obtain. My physician says this is definitely covered by insurance. It will be nice to be a normal size. I sure don't want a D cup, hopefully we can go smaller. What can I realistically expect? Thanks! Julie A: Hi Julie, I think you are an excellent candidate for a reduction and you should expect considerable relief from the procedure. That being said, it is advisable to talk to your doctor about spending extra time fine tuning the lift portion of the procedure to make your results more aesthetic. Placing implants at a later time is certainly possible and I have seen it done, but it is sort of counterproductive. You already have the organic tissue to work with and this tissue can be completely reshaped during the reduction. Additionally, once implants are placed after an invasive procedure, such as a reduction, there is sometimes accelerated degeneration of the inframammary crease or even an emphasis of the original scars. Placing the implant under the muscle would be a necessity, just FYI... Hope this helps, Eve Q: I am going to nurse my newborn and wonder if the rumors that I've heard about the baby sucking so hard that my areola will get bigger and darker. Can you help me with that? Mary A: Hi Mary, It is common for the areola to darken and enlarge even prior to nursing, due to hormonal changes in the body. Nursing can cause an elongation of the nipples, as well as contribute to stretch marks. These changes may be temporary or permanent, but do not affect every woman. Best, Eve Q: Hi Eve, Thanks for a great site. I am interested in alternative filled implants, such as soy or polypropylene. It seems that these are problematic, but is there anything alternative which is safe? Thanks, Bili A: Hi Bili, My advice is to stay with a material which is accepted and proven. Alternative filled implants have not fared well and some have proven to be a real nightmare for some women. Cohesive silicone or saline filled are at least the best options for the time being. Best, Eve Q: Hello, I am 37 years old who had two surgeries for breast augmentation, but the result did not meet my expectation. I would like some opinion for the next surgery in hope to have a more 'natural' look. About me: Very small lady. 37 years old, 4 feet 11 inches tall, 110 pounds and never had children before. Before any breast surgeries, I was almost chest-flat. My 34 A bra straps would fall every 15 minutes. Hip 35.5 inches, waist line 29.5 inches, shoulder 16 inches and the area below the breast is 28.5. I currently wear 34B. The first implants was a saline, size 300 cc, but I had difficulty finding bras that fit. The implants were too high (close to chin)and they did not fit inside bras. They looked like balls. The bra straps did not stay either. I had a second breast augmentation in 2006 and my goal was to have a 'natural' look and have the breasts appear lower on the chest. With this, the surgeon suggested that 400 cc on the right side and 450 cc on the left side was good for me and I agreed to that. However, my silicon implants still are too high and I could find a few bras with good fit. The bra straps kept falling at about the same frequency with before. From my research, it seems I am a good candidate for high profile implants. I have scheduled a consult appointment for a third augmentation surgery. I am thinking about going for 300 cc or lower to 250 cc if necessary for a 'natural' look. Do you suggest any questions I should bring to the visit? Thank you. Quynh A: Hi Quynh, The most important details to discuss with your new surgeon are your expectations and past disappointments. Make them aware of the fact that they have to get it right this time... There is nothing worse than not achieving the goal you are seeking, so be sure to have an extensive and thorough dialog with this new doctor. I think this will make a huge difference, as long as the doctor is excellent. Best, Eve Q: You have already helped with a couple of questions, but I would appreciate your help once more! I realize you don't recommend Surgeons, but I am having difficulty locating a Surgeon in Great Britain, who would undertake nipple enlargement. I do not have inverted nipples, but they are small and I see from your site it is possible to have nipple augmentation. I would be really grateful to have your suggestions as to who I may contact in the UK. Also, I am interested in the cosmetic surgery book you advertise and wonder if you could convert the cost from dollars to pounds sterling, including postage, so that I could order one? Many thanks once again. Diane A: Hi Diane, I recommend contacting a local aesthetic surgery association. They will have detailed listings of the types of procedures performed by area surgeons. Alternately, you can simply look for specialists in breast plastic surgery, who should be able to do the procedure or at least refer you to someone who can. The book is an e-book and is downloadable from anywhere in the world. Paypal automatically will bill your account or credit card in your own currency. Currently, I believe that the cost is about 6.75GBP. I wish you well, Eve Q: Hi. I had b/a three years ago. Unfortunately my surgeon had 'pole dancers' in mind, and 40D is much much too much for my for my 5'0" medium boned frame and I am miserable. They are beautiful in the nude, but I feel like an egg on legs when dressed. Yet I worry that after so long the skin will not rebound if more appropriate sized implants are used. Suggestions as to procedure and Houston-ares, sensitive surgeon? Thanks very much. Cindy A: Hi Cindy, We do not have a referral service for surgeons at this point, but hope to add one in the future. You are very right about possible skin issues from the larger implants, should you elect to downsize. Of course, these issues might not be so severe, depending on the nature of your skin and the difference in size, but then again, they may... Surgery can correct this, as well, but the question is how invasive do you want to go? I recommend getting a few opinions from several surgeons and then making a knowledge based decision. Best, Eve Q: Hi,I would be grateful of any help or advice you could give me, please. I've had 2 breast implants, the 2nd one because I wanted to go larger. Whilst I am quite happy with the size/shape, I am distressed to find that in the last 12 months or so, bright blue veins are visible in both breasts, My daughter says it looks like they're drawn on with marker pen! It looks horrible and is distressing. Even professional make-up doesn't do a great job of covering them. Is there anything at all you could suggest, or would a change of implants to the ones that sit above the muscle provide a solution? Thanks in anticipation. Diane A: Hi Diane, Visualization of blue veins in the breasts is unlikely to have anything to do with the placement of your implants. Many women experience increased prominent vascular tissue as a normal part of aging. I recommend going to get an opinion from your surgeon, but it is unlikely that a change of implant placement will do much to permanently lessen the visual impact of vascular tissue. Remember, as breasts get larger due to augmentation, they require more blood flow and new vascular tissue will continue to grow... As far as covering them, you might try a cosmetic tanner. These treatments do much to cover vascular tissue which shows clearly on pale skin. Best, Eve Q: Hi, Is it too young to get breast implants at 15? I really want them! Sindee A: Hi Sindee, 15 is too young, dear. You are still growing and your body is still maturing. You just have to be patient. I know it can be difficult to wait, but the next few years could make big changes in your body. Hang in there. If you still want implants at 19 or 20, then I recommend going for it. Remember, there are also non-surgical enhancement methods which you can try in the future also. I wish you well, Eve Comment: Hi Eve, Thank you for your advice on BRAVA. I have been using it for 10 weeks and have enjoyed excellent results, going from a 32B to a 32C. I am thrilled and I thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. Trudy A: Hi Trudy, You are very welcome. I am happy that you found a nonsurgical solution to fit your needs, while still attaining your enlargement goals. Good for you! I send you my best, Eve
