Truly Beautiful

Breast Sensitivity

Breast sensitivity is a very personal and individual sensory experience. However, sensitivity describes far more than the initially expected physical sensory perceptions. Sensitivity is also a psychological process which can be related to physical or emotional factors. All varieties of cosmetic breast surgery can influence sensitivity of the breasts in a number of possible ways, both physical and psycho-emotional.

Physical Breast Sensitivity

Women all have highly individualized levels of sensitivity in their breasts and nipples. Some women are extremely sensitive, while others do not feel anything special compared to any other area of the body. Most women experience moderate sensitivity of the breasts and heightened sensation around the nipple and areola. This sensory perception is likely to be greater during certain times of the menstrual cycle and when sexually aroused. For some larger chested women, their breasts are also sensitive to constant movement, such as high impact exercise. A majority of women describe their breasts as being particularly sensitive to cold.

Psychological Breast Sensitivity

The psychological process can affect breast sensation in 2 distinct ways. First, a positive self image will make breasts more responsive to touch and allow for greater pleasure during intimacy. This is one of the main reasons why so many women report increased enjoyment of sex after an augmentation, reduction or breast lift surgery. Confidence and comfort with one’s own body always makes for a more sensitive and pleasant experience.

The other way in which psycho-emotional processes can affect breast sensations is the physical repression of pleasure, or any sensation, due to painful and often hidden psychological issues. This is common in cases of physical or sexual abuse, or any other form of sexual trauma or teasing, especially during the ages of development. Women who have sensitivity issues from these processes will often require help from a counselor or psychologist in order to work through their spiritual and emotional repressions.

Surgery and Breast Sensitivity

Cosmetic surgery can affect both aspects of breast sensation. Physically, breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lift can all affect actual sensory perception by increasing or decreasing neurological signals. Some women experience no sensory changes from their operations, while others lose or gain considerable sensitivity in their breasts or nipples. Surgery can also affect the psychological component of breast sensation. Surgery is often a contributor to achieving a positive self image and a renewed appreciation of one’s own body. This aspect can make women’s breasts more aesthetically appealing to themselves and therefore capable of greater sensation and pleasure. Make sure to talk to your doctor about how breast surgery can affect the sensitivity of your breasts prior to deciding if a procedure is right for you.
