Happy Despite Capsular Contracture

First Name: Perri
City: Punta Gorda
Country: United States
Age: 49

At 47 I was diagnosed with a very aggressive breast cancer in my left breast. I was told I had about a 20% to 30% chance of a recurrence in the other breast. My husband and I decided with no question to have both removed and have reconstruction done. My surgery was July 30th 2008, 3 days before my 48th birthday. My surgeons worked together and the results were amazing, you can ask anyone who knows me. I think I'm like a poster child for my plastic surgeon!!

I did go through chemo and am now on an estrogen blocker with little side effects (hot flashes) which are well worth it.About six months ago I had to have a capsulectomy done on both sides (take them out and put them back) it wasn't as bad as I expected, but now my left side seems to have contracted slightly and my doctor wants to do an in office capsulotomy. I'll be under sedation but it will not be a total removal of the implant. He says it's much less invasive. I would love to hear from someone else who has had this procedure done.

I'm cancer free for over a year and feel great, so I'm not complaining… just curious about another procedure. - Perri
