Jowl Lift

Jowl lift is a common name for various surgical and noninvasive procedures which help to minimize the appearance of jowls on the lower face. Jowls are loosely defined as skin and fatty tissue which has degenerated and now hangs below the normal position of the jawline at the sides of the mouth. Jowls are considered unaesthetic by most people and are associated with aging. It is no surprise that medical science has stepped up the war against jowl formation by offering a range of cosmetic surgery procedures to treat them.

Jowl Surgery Options

Jowl Lift There are many noninvasive injection therapies using bio-fillers and other skin care products. These injections may help to minimize very minor jowls and tighten the skin temporarily. However, they are extremely limited in their effectiveness and duration. True lift procedures are surgical interventions and are often called lower face lifts or jaw line enhancement techniques. These operative modalities actually tighten up the underling facial structure surgically, before removing fatty tissue and excess skin to truly improve the characteristics of the face and eliminate problematic jowls.

Jowl Lift Advice

Jowl reduction surgery and nonsurgical skin treatments have found a lasting place in the aesthetic surgery arena. However, as stand alone techniques, they have limited appeal. After all, most people who do experience jowl formation also demonstrate widespread facial degeneration and would probably benefit far more from a full facelift or similar multi-aspect operation. Jowl procedures can be combined with one or more other surgical techniques to target problem areas in patients whose faces simply need some specific work in limited areas. To learn more about the many possible jowl reduction options, contact a board certified plastic surgeon today.
