Prosthetic Breasts

Prosthetic breasts are a good solution to certain breast related issues which affect many women and even some men. Prosthetic is a word which means artificial and refers to a specially designed enhancement product which is retrofitted in a bra to create the look and feel of a natural breast. Other common names for these popular products include breast forms and full form bra inserts.

Why Use Prosthetic Breasts?

Prosthetics are valuable for replacing a lost or damaged body part, as well enhancing a deficient or problematic anatomical structure. In the case of breasts, prosthetics have several distinct purposes including:

* Perceived breast replacement for women who have endured a full mastectomy without the benefit of immediate breast reconstruction. Some women choose not to undergo reconstruction surgery, while others must wait some time before they are eligible to receive the procedure. Breast forms are a great cosmetic solution for these women who might desire an anatomically typical appearance, even though they are missing one or both breasts. Silicone full form breasts can provide an extremely realistic look and feel inside a bra, helping a woman feel like she is on her way back to a normal life after beating breast cancer.

* Perceived breast replacement for women who have suffered a lost or damaged breast from trauma. Some women will eventually undergo full breast reconstruction, but breast forms are a good short term solution while they wait for their procedure.

* Hollow breast forms can be worn directly over naturally small breasts. This can be a fun experience for small breasted women who want to experience life from a busty perspective. Some of these women might be considering breast augmentation surgery and use the prosthetics as a test drive, to see how they like larger breasts before undergoing an actual operation.

* Transgendered persons, transvestites and normal men who want to simulate breasts might experiment with breast prosthetics to make themselves more convincingly feminine. Breast forms are a great temporary and very realistic solution for these individuals who might not want to commit to surgical bodily changes.

Prosthetic Breasts and Emotions

People use prosthetic breasts mostly to solve emotional longing due to a loss or anatomical problem. Some women have a playful attitude towards breast forms and might use them occasionally as a cleavage booster or a bit of fun in a particular outfit. However, other persons really truly rely on their prosthetics to fulfill emotional needs and prevent the psychologically damaging effects of their breast related problems. For these people, the breast forms can be a lifesaver and might eventually allow them to pursue a permanent surgical fix for their breast related concerns. While breast forms are a temporary solution akin to symptomatic treatment in medicine, they are still useful to guide a person through the process which needs to be accomplished to finally fulfill their body image goals.

Recommendation on Prosthetic Breasts

Regardless of who you are or why you want prosthetic breasts, certain recommendations apply. First, quality breast forms are a bit of an investment, ranging from $200 to $400 a pair, but will make you very happy with their realism and durability. The best forms are made from surgical grade silicone which can mimic a natural breast so well, that it is actually difficult to tell the difference by sight or feel in a bra. Cheaper cloth, foam or jelly prosthetics just do not have the same qualities as silicone, although their price is often significantly lower. Consider your needs carefully before purchase. If you are simply playing, you can try any of these products with little risk. If you desire your prosthetics to have a more meaningful role in your life, go for the best quality available to you. The price is still low compared to any cosmetic surgery procedure and you will be satisfied with your investment. Remember to find some good bras which will work well with your new inserts. Some manufacturers even sell bras specially designed for their prosthetics, although any quality bra should work fine.
