Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty Rhinoplasty is the technical name for a nose job and is the most common of all plastic surgery procedures performed worldwide. Nasal surgery is most commonly done for cosmetic enhancement, although it can be used for a variety of other reasons as well. In this age of “creative billing” many cosmetic surgeons have found ways of having their clients care covered by health insurance by claiming that the patient requires the procedure to correct a breathing concern, most commonly a deviated septum.

What is Rhinoplasty?

Nose jobs are also called aesthetic nose reshaping, nose enhancement or nose reduction surgery. This is a basic surgical procedure which is usually used to decrease the general size of the nose, reduce a specific criterion, such as length or width, or simply reshape the nose to a more aesthetic form. Nose jobs are not very invasive and typically do not leave any external visible scars. While many doctors are allowed to perform nose jobs, it is always advised to see a board certified plastic surgeon for any cosmetic or reconstructive work, while purely functional improvements can be made by a maxillofacial surgeon or a specialist in head and neck surgery.

Reasons for Getting a Rhinoplasty

The overwhelming majority of patients who undergo this procedure do so to simply make their nose look better. Some claim to have breathing issues, such as the inability to breath clearly or get enough oxygen, while others complain of snoring or sleep apnea. Many of these complaints may be true, but are really used to gain partial or full coverage for the surgical technique under the patient’s healthplan. This is extremely common, although rarely discussed openly…

Aesthetic reasons for wanting a nose job include a nose which is too big for the facial proportions, noses which are crooked due to natural design or traumatic injury and noses with an unwanted bump or odd shape. A nose job can easily correct all these problematic body image concerns, giving the recipient the nose they have always dreamed about.

Rhinoplasty Advice

Nose and nasal surgery has been perfected to a virtual science. This is one of the most satisfying of all cosmetic surgery procedures statistically and is not overly expensive for most patients to afford. Since the procedure is performed on the face, the difference it achieves is drastic and noticeable, making the operation an excellent value for the dollar…

Remember that a nose job is still an operative intervention and does demonstrate the usual risks of all plastic surgeries. Do not take any cosmetic procedure lightly and be sure to discuss all the possible pros and cons with your doctor prior to agreeing to undergo the technique.
