Satisfied with Breast Reduction

First Name: Eileen
City: Monmouth Junction
Country: USA
Age: 51

I had my surgery on July 22 2010. It was a 5 hour procedure and I stayed overnight in the hospital as my surgeon prefers this. I stayed in the recovery room for 4 hours due to higher than optimal blood pressure. Medicine brought it down and I was moved up to a room. I did not sleep well that night due to repeated trips to the bathroom due to the continuous IV drip! I was wearing a surgical vest that closed in the front and provided support and compression. My surgeon does not use drains so I had some drainage from my left breast which the nurses assured me was quite normal. It did stop by the 2nd post-op day. I only had 3 sutures per breast which were removed one week after surgery. The incisions were closed with dermabond.

About one week after surgery I did develop redness and was very itchy. My surgeon wasn't 100% sure it wasn't an infection so he put me on antibiotics to be on the safe side. He thought there was the possibility that I was allergic to the surgical vest, so we changed to one with more cotton. This did the trick and the itching subsided as did the redness. The decision was allergy-not infection.

Post-op I had little to no pain and never took anything stronger than tylanol. It is now 5-6 weeks post surgery and I just bought my first bra 40C as opposed to 40G!!! I am allowed to do light exercise-walking, treadmill. My incisions range in looks from thin slightly red lines to wider, redder lines. The under breast incision is the reddest and most annoying-not painful, just in an annoying place! My right nipple is still a bit sleepy.

Over the past week I have noticed that they are beginning to take on more of a rounded breast shape and to my eye swelling is all but gone. I do wish my surgeon had taken out more in the area under my arms but on the whole I am VERY satisfied and feeling great. It is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions fully and not overdo it since YOU feel fine, but “the girls” need time and patience! - Eileen
